Personalpronomen
The personal pronouns
Pronouns are words that substitute for a noun or noun phrase. Thanks to them, we don't have to repeat nouns all the time. With personal pronouns, we can also speak about ourselves or address other people. Examples:
Ich bin Arzt. (I am a doctor)
Ich habe einen Schrank. Er ist groß. (I have a wardrobe. It is big.)
In most cases, the pronoun "es" can be used just like the English impersonal pronoun "it":
Es schneit. (It is snowing)
Es ist Sonntag. (It is Sunday)
